The story behind BioInsights
Hi! I'm Ruby, a senior in high school with a passion for biology and medicine.

After taking honors biology and chemistry, I became especially interested in cancer, genetics, and the immune system. One summer I chose to research multiple myeloma, a rare and aggressive blood cancer, and I saw how difficult standard treatments can be for patients. Despite chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, the cancer often relapses and refracts, or becomes harder to treat.

That’s when I discovered CAR-T cell therapy, an advanced treatment that reprograms the body’s own immune cells to fight cancer. I was intrigued by its potential to dramatically improve outcomes for patients.

As I learned more, I also realized that access to such cell and gene therapies is often limited, whether due to cost, logistics, or lack of awareness.

So, I started this blog to explore and explain some of the biggest breakthroughs in advanced treatments for cancer, genetic, and autoimmune diseases. My goal is to clearly communicate how these therapies work, while also offering a unique perspective by comparing different approaches, breaking down the science, and examining issues of access and equity.

My goal is to provide a helpful resource to patients, as well as healthcare professionals, and curious students like myself.
Thanks for visiting!
