Multiple Myeloma
What is Multiple Myeloma?
Multiple Myeloma is a rare blood cancer affecting plasma cells, a type of immune cell that makes antibodies to fight invaders in the body. Multiple myeloma involves the uncontrolled multiplication of abnormal plasma cells, which results in the production of dysfunctional antibodies, called M proteins. This mass of myeloma cells crowds out other healthy blood cells in the bone marrow and prevents the bone marrow from producing other healthy blood cells. This can lead to multiple other blood-related disorders. Multiple myeloma can also frequently causes bone fractures and issues in kidney function.
